This essay Indian civilization and culture is written by Mahatma Gandhi, who is known as father of nation. he was born on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. In this essay Mahatma Gandhi has highlighted the silent features of Indian civilization and culture. He says that foundation of Indian civilization is far better than the Western Civilization and our Civilization cannot be beaten in the the world because we are following the path that our ancestors made for us. There is a charge against us by western people that we are ignorant and stolid but Gandhiji says this charge is against our merit. We can also do everything but our Civilization does not give us permission to do so.
Gandhiji says that our ancestors preferred villages to Cities because they knew cities are full of vices, crimes, robbers and thieves but in villages people live in peace. Gandhiji says that mind is a restless bird the more it get the more it wants and remains unsatisfied so we should not indulge in our passions.

यह निबंध Indian civilization and culture महात्मा गांधी द्वारा लिखा गया है, जिन्हें राष्ट्र के पिता के रूप में जाना जाता है। उनका जन्म 2 अक्टूबर 1869 को गुजरात के पोरबंदर में हुआ था। इस निबंध में महात्मा गांधी ने भारतीय सभ्यता और संस्कृति के मुख्य विशेषताओं पर प्रकाश डालें है। वह कहते हैं कि भारतीय सभ्यता की नींव पश्चिमी सभ्यता से कहीं बेहतर है और दुनिया में हमारी सभ्यता को कोई नही पीछा कर सकता क्योंकि हम उस रास्ते पर चल रहे हैं जो हमारे पूर्वजों ने हमारे लिए बनाया था। पश्चिमी लोगों द्वारा हमारे खिलाफ एक आरोप लगाया गया है कि हम अज्ञानी और मंद बुद्धि के हैं, लेकिन गांधीजी कहते हैं कि यह आरोप हमारी योग्यता के विरुद्ध है। हम सब कुछ भी कर सकते हैं लेकिन हमारी सभ्यता हमें ऐसा करने की अनुमति नहीं देती है।
गांधी जी कहते हैं कि हमारे पूर्वजों ने शहरों के अपक्षा गाँवों को पसंद किया क्योंकि वे जानते थे कि शहर विद्रोहियों, अपराधों, लुटेरों और चोरों से भरे हुए हैं लेकिन गाँवों में लोग शांति से रहते हैं। गांधीजी कहते हैं कि मन एक बेचैन पक्षी है जितना अधिक यह चाहता है उतना अधिक प्राप्त होता है और असंतुष्ट रहता है इसलिए हमें अपने जुनून में शामिल नहीं होना चाहिए।
